Preparing for the Journey
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to pray ever day?
Yes, but you choose your own time and place for daily prayer. There are many ways to pray; you have freedom and flexibility to “walk and talk” with God every day.
Why do I need a spiritual director?
Good question! Saint Ignatius himself wanted all seekers to make the journey with a companion. Like a personal trainer at the gym, your spiritual director will accompany you and encourage you. Your spiritual director will be your spiritual companion…but God is the real director!
Who are the spiritual directors?
The spiritual directors, like you, longed for a deeper relationship with God, and already completed the retreat. They spent 2-3 years in formation to become your spiritual companion. They accompany you out of generosity and love of God and the Exercises. They are all volunteers.
May I make the retreat online?
Not at this time…all the volunteers at SEEL Portland feel it is crucial to meet in person and make the journey in community. We do not have tech staff to facilitate an online retreat, and we do not record our retreats.
Why is there a retreat fee?
Everyone involved with SEEL Portland is a volunteer; however, SEEL Portland pays rents, liability insurances, banking fees, entity fees, operational and administrative fees, etc. The retreat fee does not cover the actual costs. SEEL Portland relies on donations as well as the retreat fee.
What if I can’t afford the retreat fee?
That’s OK! No one is denied the retreat because of financial constraints. You and Jeanette can arrange an alternative.
SEEL is a non-profit organization 501(c)(3) – Tax ID: 26-2898950
